The foundation pot

Where it begins

Base diameter will have a large influence the proportions of the piece and should be appropriate for the intended form.

The angle and shape of the wall rising away from the wheelhead also has a large influence on the final shape of the piece.

The transition from the thrown portion of the foundation pot to the first coil is frequently visible. Keep it low and out of sight..
