shaping

Using coil and throw and the Throwmaster, it is possible to make any shape that is achievable on the pottery wheel. The main principle to follow is to try to keep the profile as vertical as possible while adding and thinning each coil. then aligning the wall to suit. Frequently, especially when making extreme shapes, it is advised to curl the rim toward the vertical in preparation for the next coil.

Shaping is a dynamic process and the effects of accelerated drying continue to change the profile far below the rim. Monitor the profile and adjust the line using appropriately shaped wooden kidneys, one inside and one outside the pot.
